It’s 2024, and job boards are still the default for medical associations.
But why? Let’s unpack it.
Rewind to the early ‘90s for a quick minute.
Bryan and Deanna Bassett had a big idea.
There were no offices, no outside consultants, just a vision and a lot of coffee. They built the world’s first healthcare job board—only the second job board ever. Health eCareers transformed the game, connecting medical associations, employers, and job seekers.
Within a few years, medical associations were the go-to for finding jobs and top talent.
The team behind it? World-class. And while that team went on to do big things across other industries over the last decade, they never lost touch. Or their passion for helping medical associations win in the recruitment space.
Three decades later, the world couldn’t be any more different. Yet, medical association job boards remained remarkably the same: more jobs and more employers but little to no innovation.
Here’s the kicker: today, associations are working harder than ever to provide innovative member benefits and find new sources of non-dues revenue .
Something has to give.
Remember that original leadership team? They kept meeting over coffee, always asking the same question: “How can we better help medical associations deepen member loyalty, strengthen engagement, and win back their members?” “With so many fields facing significant shortages, how can we help employers better engage and hire the hardest-to-find talent.”
Finally, there was an “a’ha” moment. Job boards haven’t changed because they are still based around the job and not around the member.
In hindsight, this answer seems obvious, as always the best do.

The founding team behind MedGeo didn’t just stumble into this. They built Health eCareers from the ground up, creating a network where medical associations and their members thrived for decades.
They know the space, the key players, and what truly motivates members. And they never stopped believing in the mission—to help medical associations own their recruitment space.
We know this work will never be done. Based on feedback from associations and members, we’re constantly refining MedGeo. This isn’t just another tool in the toolbox; it’s a whole new toolkit. We’re here to empower job seekers and turn your career center into a robust, revenue-generating asset.

Job boards are dead and should have been declared so long ago.
The future? It’s all about building a vibrant, engaged career ecosystem that’s as advanced and innovative as the medical field itself.
